11/09/2023

Wooden floors create a natural and warm space. They are popular flooring systems preferred because they are durable and healthy materials. However, wooden flooring has many product options. This may make it difficult to decide when choosing parquet. There are different tests for those who want to find out which product is more durable among countless products. One of the oldest measurements used to understand material durability and compare different types is the Janka Rating. Learning the Janka Rating of the product material can be a guide when choosing.

What is Janka Rating?

Janka Grade is used to measure the hardness and durability of wooden floors. In the Janka Grading test, a 0.444 inch diameter steel ball is dropped onto the material at a standard rate. The Janka Degree is obtained by measuring how deep the ball creates on the wood. This degree is usually in pounds or newtons.

How important is Janka Grade when choosing parquet?

Janka Grade refers to material durability. It refers to whether a wooden floor is long-lasting and durable for daily use. But the Janka Rating dates back to ancient history. Today, the wood flooring industry has developed. With new technologies, superior strengths are obtained especially in laminated parquets. For this reason, it can be said that it is a rating system that is not very popular in terms of user information today. Grading is mostly used in the wood industry.

Janka Rating was especially important in the past when choosing parquet to be used in high-traffic areas. Wood with a higher Janka Grade means it can better resist impacts and abrasion. This meant that the parquet would be a long-lasting and durable floor. Today, the woods used in the production of laminated parquet are standardized. High strength oak or walnut is used in the production of parquet. The Janka Grade of these two woods is quite high.

As a result, the Janka Grade is an important indicator of the durability of wooden floors. Today, although it is not a single criterion in the selection of parquet, together with other factors, it can be decisive in terms of user preference.
