Kronoswiss Grand Selection: Modern Aesthetics and Sustainable Innovation
24/07/2024
In architectural design, floors are one of the main elements that determine the character of the space. The wooden floors in the Grand Selection of Kronoswiss Laminate Flooring products not only add an aesthetic character to living spaces, but also carry the mission of protecting nature with sustainable production processes. These floors, which are obtained from the local forests of Switzerland, combine quality and environmental awareness in architectural projects with their circular approach and modern details.
The Grand Selection floors under Kronoswiss Laminate Flooring, distributed by Dendro, are produced using fresh wood from local and sustainable forests in Switzerland. The high quality products of these products, grouped around seven different collections, are based on local resources and sustainable production processes produced in Switzerland and identified with the "Swiss Wood" mark.
Sustainable Production, Circular Consumption
In the production process, it is of great importance to support local businesses. The floors produced at the plants in Switzerland utilise local sources of raw materials to avoid long transport distances. A third of the wood comes from carefully prepared, albeit costly, steep slope cuts. However, this approach results in the utilisation of unused resources and actively contributes to the regeneration of Swiss forests. Sustainability, a forestry principle that stipulates that no more trees should be cut than can grow back at any given time, is more than a definition; it is a goal and an investment approach. For this reason, investments are made in the reforestation of forests from which wood is procured: For every tree cut down, a new tree is planted. In this way, local foresters are also supported and monocultures are avoided. This shows how effective environmental concerns and sensitivities are in decision-making processes. The ISO 14001-certified environmental management system also confirms this. Resource consumption is continuously optimised. From prudent product planning and raw material procurement to efficient and environmentally compatible production processes and the recycling of materials.

Swiss forests provide the naturally renewable raw material wood for the production of all Grand Selection floors. The sustainable approach to the responsible use of wood emphasises that the material is sourced exclusively from sustainable forestry. In line with this approach, Grand Selection floors incorporate new wood materials as well as waste from the wood industry that is no longer used. Kronoswiss emphasises that wood has "several lives". Sawdust, boards, chips and other waste materials are recycled using advanced technologies and utilised in the production of floors. In the last step, the wood is incinerated and thus serves a circular process as an energy supplier for production. In this way, the floors fulfil a high standard of sustainability and contribute to the environment through recycling.
Kronoswiss continuously invests in resource and energy efficiency measures and has had an energy management system in place since 2010 to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. More than 90% of Kronoswiss' thermal energy comes from renewable, climate-neutral sources. Ongoing process optimisations ensure that all products are CO2-neutral by using renewable thermal energy instead of fossil fuels. For example, to keep raw material, water and energy consumption in production as low as possible and to save fresh water, rainwater is collected to compensate for evaporation losses. In this way, the carbon footprint is minimised and the product range becomes resource-friendly.

The emission limits applicable in Switzerland under the Air Pollution Control Regulation (LRV), which aims to protect people, animals, plants, their biotic communities and habitats from harmful air pollution, have been significantly tightened as of January 2023. Kronoswiss manufactures its Grand Selection products under one of these strict emission regulations.
Kronoswiss Grand Selection: Durable, Aesthetic, Eco-Friendly
The production process of Grand Selection collection products under the umbrella of Kronoswiss Laminate Flooring, distributed by Dendro, is in full compliance with environmental standards. Production facilities are equipped with modern technologies and emission and environmental protection requirements are meticulously complied with. In the production of floors, pesticides or harmful heavy metals are not used. This supports the ecological balance of the products. Thanks to the high degree of automation and efficient production processes, floor products are produced in high quality. By integrating energy and heat cycles, energy efficiency is maximised in the production process. This has a positive impact on both the environment and production costs.

Floor products made of wood, which is a natural raw material, have high quality and are a good option to add character to your living spaces with its durability. Inspired by the natural material in their design, the products not only look like a high quality solid wood floor, but also feel like one due to the harmony they show in terms of decor and texture.
All floors in the Grand Selection have the highest utilisation class "AC5/Class 33". A wear-resistant "anti-scratch" coating and a high level of scratch and impact resistance make these floors durable, long-lasting and suitable for all rooms.

The common opinion is that wooden floors are inherently unsuitable for rooms where water is frequently used. However, Grand Selection floors are water resistant and therefore also suitable for use in children's rooms, bathrooms, kitchens or commercial areas. Likewise, damp wiping of the floors is not a problem.

Due to their large surface area, floors have a significant impact and responsibility on the health of living spaces. Made entirely from natural materials, Grand Selection floors do not contain harmful substances such as PVC. Their CO2 neutral production makes them a sustainable alternative to plastic floors. On the other hand, despite the fact that floors attract all kinds of dirt, dust and bacteria, the antibacterial surface on every Grand Selection model actively prevents the spread of bacteria. The antimicrobial properties have been tested, approved and certified by the Hohenstein Institutes.
