27/12/2021

The winners of completed projects from 2019 to 2021 were announced in various categories within the World Architecture Festival (WAF). The competition saw approximately 500 projects from 62 countries make it to the shortlist. The awarded projects, in line with this year's theme of "Resetting the City: Greening, Health, and Urbanism," contribute to the environment while also inspiring and providing recommendations for future projects.

The list includes projects from world-renowned architecture firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster + Partners, and BIG, and projects from Yazgan Design Architecture and Yesim Kozanli Architecture & Interior Design offices from Turkey. The jury responsible for determining the list featured Turkish architects İpek Baycan, Gonca Arık Çalışkan, Banu Uçak, Tuğçe Rizeli, and Pınar Dinç Kalaycı.

Cleaner and More Sustainable Societies

As a result of developments in the past two years worldwide, our perspectives on construction and architecture have changed. The importance of creating healthier and more reliable environments, understanding the consequences of disrupting nature and wildlife, and the global problems that will arise as a result have become clearer. In this process, concerns regarding urbanization, biological diversity, and sustainability have led to an increased demand for creating healthier and safer environments. Designing healthy and reliable cities starts with architecture and building design, which is why this year's festival theme has been determined as "Resetting the City.

Obtaining sustainable energy, reducing pollution, and having access to clean water sources are directly related to controlling the pandemic. Therefore, these have become the central focus of urban planning strategies worldwide and the focal point of this year's festival.
