Rustic Design: What It Is & How Is It Achieved?
31/01/2022

You've probably heard the word "rustic" many times if you are interested in decoration. Rustic, which has a wide range of definitions, can be used to envision the design concept of both a stylish farmhouse and a cottage in the woods. So what are the features that make a design “rustic”?

The rustic design aims to be as natural and organic as possible. Robustness and natural beauty stand out and are defined as such. The designs emphasize the use of wood, stone, wicker, and other organic products that create a relaxing atmosphere.

Rustic design is born from the calm and sincerity of the unpretentious. The philosophy behind this understanding is relatively simple: “To adopt an organic aesthetic that is comfortable, warm, and friendly.”

The following design principles form the basis of the rustic design philosophy.

Organic Materials

One of the defining features of rustic design is using natural and raw materials. For this reason, rustic design often lacks smooth and flat surfaces. It features a variety of shapes, textures, and colors derived from natural materials. Unique pieces emerge.

Wood is the primary element used in rustic homes, from floor choice to furniture choice. Rustic sorting is characterized by its distinctive color change, its bumps, and brown lines. Especially, prominent in the Country series of the Dendro Parke product family. Different-sized knots that give an antique effect emphasize the authentic texture of the wood. You can have the rustic design you dream of with different engineered wood flooring models from the Country series. Dendro is with you when designing your living space.

Natural Color Palette

Naturalness forms the basis of the rustic design concept. For this reason, raw and neutral colors and earth tones (beige or brown) can be preferred for large space surfaces in decoration. In addition, green, blue, and gray tones are also included in the rustic design color palette. This will create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Furniture and Decoration Products

Rustic furniture is often produced using recycled or upcycled materials to foster a sense of reuse. Comfort is prioritized. Furniture that is spacious and comfortable, preferably handmade and simple in design, is often used.

As a complement to the design, natural and durable fabrics such as canvas, woven carpets hung on the walls, or textiles such as leather decorations can be used together. Thus, complex, elegant, and effortless aesthetics are preferred. Accessories, fireplaces, or wood-burning stoves made from forest-picked branches or driftwood that emphasize the natural are also characteristic elements of rustic design.

Patterns

Patterns are often “the focal point” as most surfaces and objects are kept simple. Patterns such as patchwork and plaid, which we encounter in many areas from pillowcases to floor rugs, are used in harmony with other elements.

One of the best choices for warm and comfortable living space designs, rustic design is a great way to reconnect with nature and harness its soothing powers.
