The World's Largest Wooden City: Stockholm Wood City Project
21/08/2023

Everyone is fascinated by the world's largest buildings or most magnificent cities. However, it is important to remember that this splendor is part of the global climate crisis. But can't these inspiring structures be built with a more environmentally friendly approach and attract the same attention? The answer to this question is the Stockholm Wood City project in Sweden, which will start construction in 2025.

The project, which will be built entirely out of wood, differs from other projects of its scale with its sustainability approach. We look at the details of this project, which will be the largest wooden city in the world when its construction is completed.

Designed by the world-renowned architecture office Henning Larsen, the Stockholm Wood City project draws attention with its architectural design and environmentally friendly features. The complex will be built entirely of wood and will offer an alternative to cities dominated by steel and concrete. Wooden structures promise warmth and sincerity. The construction of the project will start in 2025 and is planned to be completed in 2027. Located in the south of Stockholm, the project will offer 2,000 residential units and 7,000 workplaces. The workplaces in the project will meet the need for workplaces in the region and save money by minimizing the energy and time spent by employees on transportation.

The project will cover a total area of 250,000 square meters and reflect Sweden's understanding of the environment. Considering that most of the world's construction is carried out using concrete and that concrete accounts for 40% of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide, the importance and benefits of wood can be more clearly understood.

In addition, since the tree absorbs carbon dioxide in the environment, it allows us to leave a cleaner world for future generations. Research shows that wooden structures have healthier indoor air quality. In addition, wooden structures minimize human stress levels.

Stockholm Wood City project will offer us a magical experience not only with the natural beauty that wooden buildings bring to the cityscape but also with the presence of nature in the city. Wooden buildings will offer a warm living experience to replace the cold and crowded city life. Building a neighborhood in harmony with nature will be an example of leaving a more livable and sustainable world to future generations.
