We have compiled some of the important architectural festivals that will take place in 2022 for you!
Madrid Design Festival / 1 February – 31 March 2022 / Spain
The Madrid Design Festival, which is offering a comprehensive exhibition program to its visitors, welcomes the leading names of national and international design.
With the participation of names such as Jane Withers, Hella Jongerius, Anna Heringer, Patricia Urquiola, and Izaskun Chinchilla, women's voices will come to the fore in design this year. Their projects, philosophies, and how they create new environments for a sustainable future will be discussed.
In the festival, where the relationship between design and active aging will be discussed, the potential of design and its contribution to building more friendly cities for the elderly will be analyzed.
Stockholm Design Week / 7 – 13 February 2022 / Sweden
Stockholm Design Week is a festival that highlights Scandinavian design, with a series of exhibitions, talks, and design-centered events to strengthen the ties between the city and the fair. Throughout the week, the events take place at various cultural venues, including museums, galleries, and showrooms in the city.
Stockholm Design Week, which has been recognized as the “most significant week of the year” for Scandinavian Design since its inception in 2002, and which is held every February, will take place this year from 7 to 13 February 2022.
BIENNALE ARTE 2022 Venice Biennale / 23 April – 27 November 2022 / Italy
The Venice Biennale is an international art biennial exhibition held in Venice, Italy. Which is often described as the "Olympics of the Art World", participation in the Biennial is a prestigious event for contemporary artists.
The name of the 2022 Venice Biennale this year is “Milk of Dreams”. The name is borrowed from a book by the ‘’Surrealist artist, Leonora Carrington, according to Cecilia Alemani, Curator of the 59th International Art Exhibition. Anyone can change, transform, be one thing and another.”
The 59th Venice Biennale not only includes National Participants who can present their exhibitions in Venice's historical centers but also offers a series of events to international organizations that can hold their own shows and initiatives.
São Paulo International Architecture Biennale / 21 May - 10 July 2022 / Brazil
The São Paulo Architecture Biennale, held in São Paulo, Brazil, aims to show the critical reflections of past and present events on contemporary space, enabling the rediscovery of erased memories.
Maria Beatriz Nascimento's Biennial program, based on the concept of transition, consists of different topics such as democracy, memory, bodies, knowledge, and ecology. The Biennial, in which questions such as "What are the urban spaces that activate democratic processes, what is needed to create a collective memory, how to balance ecology", will be held between 21 May and 10 July 2022.
Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Urbanism-Architecture Biennial / August - October 2022 / China
The Shenzhen and Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale is a traditional architectural event that takes place simultaneously in two cities. With the theme “Rethink and Rebuild Resilience” and a curator to be announced in mid-January, the biennial to be held in August-September 2022 aims to be the focal point of the 8th edition of the UABB.
Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2022 / 7 September – 31 October 2022 / Estonia
The Tallinn Architecture Biennale is the largest and most important architectural festival in the Baltic.
A large exhibition will be shown in Tallinn that explores the ways in which the circular economy logic interacts with design spaces, the outdoor installation, and the result of an architectural competition.
The Tallinn Architecture Biennale aims to strengthen the building by enabling designers, architects, planners, and practitioners to take a stance on the cyclical processes in architecture.
In addition, the Biennial aims to create a synergy that will bring together Estonian and foreign architects with the public and exchange ideas.
Oslo Architecture Triennale (OAT 2022) / 21 September - November 2022 / Norway
Oslo Architecture Triennale 2022 looks at neighborhoods to rethink our cities at a time when the world is facing social and environmental challenges. The Triennial, which will be organized with the title of 'Mission Neighborhood - (Re)forming Communities', aims to show how we create the places we share and how the scale of the neighborhood transforms into cities.
The Triennial, which will be held in Oslo, Norway, will take place from September 21 to November 2022.
XII BIAU: Ibero-American Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism / September 2022 / Mexico
The Ibero-American Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (BIAU) is an initiative supported by the Arquia Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility, Urban Agenda (Mitma) and the Spanish Supreme Council of Architects (CSCAE).
The aim of BIAU is to create a platform and environment for discussion, reflection, and dialogue on architecture among the 22 participating countries. It has been held since 199, and its aim is to recognize, reward and disseminate a range of high-quality works that can represent a diverse panorama of architecture and urbanism.
