OSB panels are a good choice both for their decorative and functional properties. Because in addition to being light, flexible, strong and versatile, OSB boards are fully recyclable. Although not associated as a decorative aesthetic value, OSB has recently been incorporated as a visible element in interior design and integrated into modern interiors, giving new meaning to these widely used engineered boards. Designed for a couple, Urban Cabin is a 25 square meter micro apartment in a small town in Italy. Despite its small size, the design of the apartment promises flexible use and plenty of storage space, while also keeping vibrant colors at the forefront. The open-plan living space is designed for a feeling of spaciousness and multifunctional furniture pieces are used. OSB is used on almost all surfaces of these areas.
Varnished or unvarnished, OSB panels are available in a variety of colors, ranging from straw yellow to dim brown. OSB therefore offers a variety of design possibilities to explore. As the example shows, you can cover walls and ceilings. Or you can incorporate OSB panels into your interior decoration with simple touches, covering small spaces and furniture. Combining OSB panels with other wood materials or neutral colors, such as in the example, to achieve a Scandinavian style that evokes comfort, can produce quality results. Or combine it with steel and concrete for a sleek industrial look. All in all, OSB is a simple material that provides flexibility and a durable presence in interiors.
Another example of the use of OSB is this 183-square-meter studio project, designed in the backyard of a New Zealand couple's house, where they live with their children. The architect used OSB for the interior walls, floor and ceiling. The structural supports create an artistic, geometric aesthetic.
This project is an interior space that is relatively less exposed to the sun compared to other projects. The limited space has been made open plan by demolishing the existing walls in a controlled manner with minimal cost. The kitchen and bathroom are then positioned behind the OSB wall, as seen in the picture. In this sense, the OSB wall functions as a divider. Thus, it gives the space both clarity and a strong dynamism.
